Description
Whenever a trip is winding down, I always have a mixture of melancholy feelings. It's always too soon even when I'm tired and ready for a break. Such were my feelings at the end of my time in Egypt when I saw the elaborate Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, also known as the Alabaster Mosque.
I can't imagine a better note to end a trip on. The soaring ottoman architecture of the Alabaster Mosque was unforgettable and I was entranced as soon as I saw the Cairo landmark.
The mosque was built by Muhammad Ali Pasha, a ruler of Egypt in the 19th century. It was built in memory to his son but is as much a monument to Muhammad Ali Pasha himself, who is entombed inside beneath those beautiful ottoman style domes.
I say this about so many places, but I would love the opportunity to visit and photograph this opulent mosque again some day. It was truly a treat to visit the Alabaster Mosque at least once!
