Description
There's one landmark that is known to pretty much everyone in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta, and that is the Big Chicken pictured here! It started life in the 1960's as Johnny Reb's Chick, Chuck and Shake restaurant. In the 1970's it became part of the KFC chain of restaurants but it's one of those landmarks that has transcended the restaurant that occupies it. In fact there was an uproar when KFC considered moving or changing their famous restaurant several years ago.
In Marietta, all directions begin with regards to where one should turn at the Big Chicken! This status meant that I knew the Big Chicken would be part of my series of Atlanta imagery when I was working on that project in earnest. This piece of digital art captures the bold colors and larger than life feeling of standing before this great piece of roadside Americana in the heart of Marietta, Georgia.
