Description
There has been a lighthouse on Tybee Island near Savannah almost as long as the history of Georgia as a colony. The first light was built in 1733. And although the light has been rebuilt a number of times, the current one dates back to after the US Civil war.
This was my first morning visit to beautiful Tybee Island. I had come to see Savannah but I spent an inordinate amount of time enjoying the beautiful views and sea air out on Tybee, and quickly understood why people fall in love with this place.
Still, I'm glad I got there early. Only a short time later, the historic lighthouse was no longer the quiet sanctuary in this first photo of the morning. Love the crisp whites from the strong morning sun and the great clouds streaking the skies. It was late summer bordering autumn, the time of the year I most often see skies like this at least here in Georgia.
