Description
It wasn't until I was long home that I read the story of this boat. I just loved the name and the icy waters of Galway Harbor surrounding it on a cold day in January while I was there.
It turns out this is one of two research vessels owned by the Marine Institute based out of Galway Ireland. The RV Celtic Explorer was commissioned in 2003 and can carry up to 35 personnel, including 20-22 scientists, for scientific research related to the waters surrounding Ireland.
Galway Harbor looks pretty modern in this view but the harbor here dates back to the 10th century, so one in a long line of boats that has sailed out of this port on the beautiful west coast of Ireland.
This scene reminds me of the cold chill of the sea air and calls me back there loudly! Galway was a beautiful city but its connection to the sea was at least part of what spoke to me about it.
