Description
When I stumbled upon the old Southern Railway Freight depot in Augusta, I was surprised how much it looked like the 1890's Queen Anne style train station in my own hometown. Clearly the builders were inspired by the same architecture if not reading from the same blueprints! Unlike the one in my home town, though, this one was not for passengers but for unloading and loading of freight for the old Southern Railway in Augusta.
This depot, built in the early 1900s, is apparently one of the few suriviving relics of Augusta's railroad era.
This was one of my personal favorite views - the side of the depot facing Reynolds Street. I loved the repetition in the architecture. It feels like it goes on and on! They must have moved a lot of freight back in Augusta back in the day. Imagine a flock of wagons at all those loading bays!
