Description
If there's any one piece of art for which I'm best known it's a certain picture of a red British Phone Box in London (elsewhere in my gallery). And in a way, it almost makes me not want to have too many pictures like it in my gallery for fear of becoming a worn out, one horse show. But I can't help it.
Long before I ever set foot in Britain, it was those quaint old telephone booths that I envisioned when I thought about all things British. I mean, there's a reason you find them so often near British pubs in other parts of the world. They are truly emblematic of the UK as a place and culture. Even though in reality their time has come and gone. Their main place now is as a touristy novelty. Isn't it interesting when what would be an otherwise mundane object transcends itself?
So, given my near-obsession with British phone boxes, I guess it's a given that each trip across the pond finds me collecting more images of them. And this one is one of my few lonely village sightings. This one is based on a photo taken in the little village of Avebury. More well known for it's ancient stone circle, but equally a quaint little village that by itself would have kept me and my camera entertained.
For me, each of my British phone booths have their own unique quality. For this one, it's the dappled light through the greenery and the rough stone wall. It all provided a beautiful backdrop to a British icon.
