Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church is well known today beyond the confines of Atlanta because of its connection with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was raised in the church in the Sweet Auburn community. He would go on to become co-pastor of the church with his father before his assassination in 1968.
Ebenezer Baptist Church has a history dating back to the 1880s. The historic church building seen in this print was built in the 1920s. Today it's part of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. A new sanctuary was built across the street allowing the historic church to commemorate the life and times of MLK Jr.
