Description
I don't know what Connemara is like in the summer (although I'd love to find out), but in the midst of winter, a lot of my time wandering those roads, my only companions were the sheep you see here over Killary Fjord. Quiet travel companions they were, too, but they were an inseparable part of the landscape in the countryside of County Galway.
In case you're a comparable city person like me when I first saw sheep grazing in Scotland, you might wonder what the colors mean. No, they don't mean these sheep are young fans of punk music, they are used to identify whose sheep these are. Each farmer in the area will use a different color on a different part of the sheep to identify them. This is because the sheep are pretty much free range within certain boundaries. There was nothing separating me from these guys standing on a roadside admiring the view of Ireland's only fjord.
At least that's what the marketing folks suggest to get people to come to this beautiful place. Others say this is simply a lovely deep natural harbor near the village of Leenane. For my two cents, who cares what you call it, the natural scenery here was off the chart beautiful and worth it to simply to see, never mind as an artist.
