Notre Dame de Paris rising over the river Seine is truly an unforgettable sight! My first time seeing the cathedral was at night after my arrival in the beautiful French city. At night, it's gorgeous, but in the full light of day, it's probably at its best.
That's when all the little architectural details jump out, and even more so in the winter when the trees are laid bare and there's nothing blocking the view. I like traveling in winter anyway, but that was actually a tip I got from a guide in London years ago, that winter is often the best time to see these old medieval buildings. Much of the year, their architecture is obscured by vegetation but in winter, the vistas are completely changed.
