Description
Of the various great medieval European cathedrals I've had the pleasure of seeing, there's no question that Notre Dame de Paris ranked up there with the best of them. Notre Dame is, after all, the epitome of French Gothic architecture. This beautiful church wrote the rulebook on that style!
Getting so much sunlight in winter was truly fortunate. And there's something as I've said before about the quality of light on a sunny day in Europe in winter. I think it has to be down to the angle of the sun. Or maybe it's simply my imagination, but every time the sun came out, it was glorious!
This is, of course, the front facade of Notre Dame de Paris, which translates to English as Our Lady of Paris. Doesn't she look quite grand from this perspective reaching for the heavens?
Note: Notre Dame de Paris is part of a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site.
