Description
My favorite thing about the roof of Notre Dame was the sweeping expansive views of the city. And of course, those cool Medieval gargoyles. Perhaps they should be termed medieval-esque Gargoyles? Most of the truly medieval ones were gone by the time Notre Dame de Paris was renovated in the 19th century. They had been lost to the passing years and changing tastes. There were often questions during the renovation about how faithful they were being to the original French Gothic designs.
Whether faithful to the medieval origins or not, you have to admit, the Gargoyles of Notre Dame are pretty cool. They all seemed to have a personality and expression of their own which is all the more interesting when you consider they are so high up that only visitors to the roof would ever really see the details. Fascinating how life-like they appear.
This one has always looked to me as if he's keepin a watchful eye over Paris. On the horizon is none other than the Eiffel Tower. I did say the view was amazing didn't I?
