Description
I love nature trails in the woods. They are, I think, excellent places to think and reflect inwardly. I've carried my camera on many a woodland trail, but more often than not, if I end up taking photos, it's of clearings or views down streams and rivers in the midst of the woods. So, this picture based on a photo from a walk in a Scottish wood is something of a rarity for me. The rest of the group were ahead of me when I stopped and saw this view. I loved the contrast.
On the right, barely visible, is the river known as Black Water. It was that little clearing for the river that allowed the light in and is responsible for the beautiful golden hue to the right of the woodland path. Meanwhile to the left, the woods are dark. The duel nature of light and dark at once was noteworthy enough to stop and pull out the camera for me.
At the time, it sort of reminded me of the introduction to that old tv series, Tales from the Dark Side. Today, it reminds me more of a few lines from a Robert Frost poem instead, despite the utter lack of snow on that winter afternoon:
From Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening:
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
Funny how the years change our perceptions of reality isn't it?
