Description
There's something about the site of a live oak this old that conjures visions of fairies and other magical creatures. The Angel Oak on Johns Island South Carolina is believed to be centuries old. The numbers seem to range from anywhere as "low" as 300 years to 500 years. It's impressive size definitely is the work of centuries. Live Oaks tend to grow outward more than upward and the Angel Oak has done both. This Charleston area landmark is a survivor having weathered centuries of hurricanes and coastal weather. I definitely think "Enduring" should be part of any description of this amazing old tree.
