Description
The highlight of my trip to Egypt came about halfway through my travels there. Was it an ancient temple or tomb? The Pyramids? No, I hit that high point quite literally in the skies high above the Valley of the Kings near the city of Luxor. Even if I didn't have the photographic proof of that incredible flight, the feeling would last me a life time.
I've said it many times, but for me travel is as much about stepping out of my comfort zone as anything else. The chance that I would have stepped into a hot air balloon back home for the first time was low, but on a trek through the amazing landscapes of Egypt, how could I say no?
We trekked out to the launch site in literal darkness, but you can tell they have these flights timed in a way that would only come from the incredible repetition as tourists come through Luxor. Moments after we were in the skies, dawn was coming and the colors, as you can see were phenomenal. And they changed moment by moment.
I don't know if every sunrise from a hot air balloon in Egypt is so lovely as mine, but I'd like to think I was given an extra special treat. Just look at those deep blues and the gold and crimson on the horizon... wow... I'm still speechless...
