Portland Head Light in a landscape filled with snow on a winter night in Maine. The snow covered lighthouse was completed in 1791 and is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Considering the age of the lighthouse it may not surprise you to hear that it was commissioned by George Washington.
The lighthouse is still an active beacon but was automated in 1989. The keeper's cottage is a maritime museum. It's seen here with the lighthouse illuminated against a starry night sky and with the warm glow of lights inside the historic keeper's cottage.
