Description
I'm honestly not sure what inspired me to shoot this collage while standing on the hill leading up to Sacre Coeur in Paris. This hill in Montmartre is the tallest in Paris giving the basilica a commanding view of the Parisian skyline.
It also means quite a climb up if you choose to go by foot rather than by funiculare, But the view by foot is where it's at, so that's where I was! At this small plaza part way up, I stopped for a breather and to admire the view. In fact, I took several photos of that gorgeous piece of French architecture from this spot. But this collage was a singular moment, the only place during my stay in Paris that I wanted to try out this style.
And I'm so glad I did make that choice. I love the feeling, the movement of the people who cross between scenes, the feeling of a collection of photos of a moment stacked together somewhat haphazardly.
When finalizing this Parisian scene, I decided that I wanted to give it a backdrop that suggested a scrapbook or maybe an old piece of architecture decorated with the photos from that journey through Paris.
I feel like the result evokes memories of not just my trip but anyone who has stood on that same hill in Monmartre and made that same pilgrimage to see the church high on a hill in Paris.
