Description
There are so many moments from my wander through the Scottish Highlands that I'm unlikely to ever forget, and one of them was walking along the Black Water at Rogie Falls. The main falls were impressive enough but I never found a vantage point I liked during my short stay there. What I found, as I walked upstream, was this beautiful spot overlooking the river known as Black Water.
I'm not sure if these were considered proper falls or simply a little set of very rough rapids, but I loved the angle afforded along the river here, particularly because of the gnarled old tree seen on the right. I loved how its leafless limbs reached over the water leading your eyes further into the scene and the almost uniform backdrop on the other side of the river of more leafless trees.
Between the dark swirls of the water in the Black Water and the soft backdrop of the trees on the other side, this picture felt very painterly to me already. As you can see, that was a theme I ran with.
