Description
A little taste of local history and medicine in the early 20th century. The old Macon County Clinic opened its doors in 1934. In an era much different to today, it was built and owned by two local doctors, Tom and Fred Adams. It was the first hospital in the county but was followed only a few years later by Riverside Hospital in 1938.
The Macon County Clinic operated until 1973. While Riverside outlasted it by many years, the building was completely rebuilt in the 1980's. The old Macon County Clinic was a a hotel for many years but the exterior remains largely as it was, a window into Montezuma's past.
The house standing next door was the 'Nurse's Home' - a boarding house for the nurses who worked at the hospital and was demolished in recent years.
