Artist's Description

While this Dublin landmark is officially the Liffey Bridge, it's long been known as the Ha'penny Bridge. Built in 1816, this pedestrian bridge was a toll bridge for about a century, and yes, it cost a half penny to cross the river Liffey between north and south Dublin.

The toll is long a thing of the past, but the name has stuck for this graceful bridge. It's the oldest iron bridge in the country.

I didn't know any of this history the first time I saw the Ha'penny bridge, I just knew it was a beautiful little bridge near Temple Bar. It was later that I read of its long history in the city. And it was one of many stops on my last night in Ireland.

That was when I took this parting photo. Dusk was just turning to inky black night by the time I reached the bridge. My favorite part is the colors from lights reflecting in the water of the river - very reminiscent of a rainbow, don't you think?

About Mark E Tisdale

Mark E Tisdale

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple. My body of work is wide ranging from photographic scenes of far away places, more near and dear locations, and more fanciful artwork. It's all crafted with a heartfelt love for finding the beauty in little captured moments. My artwork also hangs on walls near and far from private homes to businesses who have chosen to decorate with my art. Whether you've purchased one piece or a house full or you simply admire and share with your friends, your patronage of my art is...
