San Cristobal de Las Casas was an unexpected part of my last whirlwind journey through Mexico. While it held all the beautiful architecture and stunning colors that one associates with Mexico, it was packed with expatriates. And a wide variety of expatriates at that. It felt like I could stay here and meet most of the nationalities of Europe by just sitting at a cafe on on the Calle Real de Guadalupe!
But as I said, it still felt like Mexico. This street scene from the main road is an example. Beautiful colors, a little old man pushing a wheelbarrow. It just felt like the quintessential Mexican experience from a storybook or greeting card. Perhaps that explains the painterly approach I took to editing this particular scene from San Cristobal de Las Casas?
In the distance on the hill, one can just make out the Church of the Virgin of Guadalupe. I never made it up that hill, but the beautiful afternoon light was best looking in that direction anyway!
