Artist's Description

The first time I spotted Galway Cathedral up the River Corrib, I was sure I was looking at an historic, possibly even even medieval church. In fact, Galway Cathedral, although quite classic in style, was built in the 1960's.

From the spot where I took this photo, at the mouth of the Corrib, it's not possible to tell, but the cathedral actually rests on an island in the middle of the river. That island is known as Nun's Island and was previously the site of Galway's jail.

This photo, taken near dusk, is quite literally the first time I saw this beautiful church dome rising over the Galway skyline. And what a sky! Look at those sunset hues, pinks and blues and golden tones... The light on my first afternoon may well be what first made me fall in love with Galway. Such a beautiful city to visit, and I suspect in which to live.

About Mark E Tisdale

Mark E Tisdale

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple. My body of work is wide ranging from photographic scenes of far away places, more near and dear locations, and more fanciful artwork. It's all crafted with a heartfelt love for finding the beauty in little captured moments. My artwork also hangs on walls near and far from private homes to businesses who have chosen to decorate with my art. Whether you've purchased one piece or a house full or you simply admire and share with your friends, your patronage of my art is...
