They often say the devil is in the details, and it's those details that set the various ancient ruins apart from each other. Even the different Maya sites I've visited have a unique feel to them based in some part on the adornments of the buildings that surround you on these archaeological sites.

I don't know any of the details of this snake decoration at Chichen Itza. Perhaps there aren't any details to begin with? But I recall well that he decorated the steps of one of the Mayan temples there. Although greatly weathered, I still couldn't help but stop and admire the details in this ancient carving.
