My first visit to Tybee Island had been in the dead of night, so the stretches of marshes I drove though in the dark looked like miles of nothingness. Imagine my surprise seeing those gorgeous coastal marshes in the morning!

I was amazed. This is so utterly unlike the rest of my home state of Georgia, or at least the parts I'm used to. I had not had much experience with the coast nor the barrier islands and the coastal marshes that separate them from the mainland. It's a unique little ecosystem. And although I feel I've done them great justice in this landscape, nothing compares to being there and seeing the soggy marshes, the different grasses growing there and the tons of life from bugs to birds that complete the ecology. I read much more about the marshes after I got back and learned about the role they play in the environment along the coast and I still only feel like I scratched the surface on understanding what I saw that golden morning between Tybee Island and Savannah,...

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist.
