This is a work of the imagination, but inspired by reality. There was something about the modern architecture of the church on the main square in Liberia, Costa Rica, that called to me. It's not a style I normally love but at the same time I liked the optimism and forward looking aspect of it. The church on the main square appeared to have been built in the 70's, possibly to replace a more traditional styled building. While not of the Colonial or baroque variety one usually finds in Latin America, it shares the heavenward reaching lines of many old churches and cathedrals. The massive bell tower almost reminded me of a modern day lighthouse.

There were lights crisscrossing the front of the church when I visited just before New Years but I never saw them lit up. This is my imagining of how it might have looked aglow with a festive mood.

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple.
