Artist's Description

After two nights roughing it on the banks of the River Nile, Luxor was a shock to the system. A modern and crowded Egyptian city with all the perks of home was not what I was expecting, honestly. As our group wandering along the corniche on our first afternoon getting acquainted with Luxor, we came upon the ruins of a temple. In a way, it was like so many other Egyptian temples we'd already seen up to that point, but the light hitting it was extra special and I had to stop and capture these impressive ancient columns rising into the sky. Rather than being in the midst of crowded Luxor, it feels as if we've stumbled onto some lost ruins doesn't it?

It was only later that I read up on the site and realized that I was photographing what remains of Ancient Thebes. Within the walls of this temple, they once worshiped the Theban Triad of gods, Amun, Mut, and Chons. It somehow felt appropriate to see part of a golden age of Egypt bathed in gold light, don't you think?
