It's funny how sometimes you can read your own mood in an image. This photo of red boat on the beach at Playa del Carmen was taken the last day I was there. The next morning I was leaving.
My time enjoying that stretch of Caribbean beach was already feeling dream-like and distant even though I was still there. And that distant dream is what I see when I look at this now. I love the vivid red and blue of the boat compared with the distant hues which are more subdued.
The subdued Caribbean colors are because of storms. There had been a couple of days of rainy weather but the storms had pushed out to sea. The foreground with our cheerful boat were bathed in light but the skies that form the backdrop were still on the stormy side. In fact, if you look carefully on the horizon, you can see darker areas where rain is falling either at sea or on Cozumel. That makes the contrast a bit more dreamy, almost as if the boat has weathered the storm in the distance, you know.
