Artist's Description

There was something that drew me to these ancient statues at Karnak Temple, part of the ancient Egyptian Thebes. When in fact they were weathered by centuries, obscuring some of their ancient details, it felt almost like they were instead half-formed, large bodies growing out of the living rock. Fanciful, I suppose, but that was the though I had when I saw them while visiting Karnak on our last morning in Luxor, Egypt.

At any rate, I love the details of these old statues, crumbling as they are but still covered in Egyptian Hieroglyphics. There's so much history buried in Egypt, so much of the human story beneath the sands of time. I cherish the short time I had to take in the wonders of the site but would love the opportunity some day to return to Egypt in general and the ancient temples in particular, to examine and photograph the ruins in more detail and satisfy the armchair archaeologist that lives inside me.
