Description
Whenever I visit European cities, I love to see if there's a cathedral to climb. Quite often, the views from these beautiful old church towers are really something. And the view from Notre Dame de Paris certainly lived up to my expectations. In fact, it rivaled the views from the Eiffel Tower, and I wouldn't have a photo of the Eiffel Tower from the Eiffel Tower now would I?
A highlight of my walk around the top towers of Notre Dame, though, was seeing the beautiful gargoyles for which the church is so well known. A handful of them may be original, but most of them are from the 19th century renovation of the church. So they are in the spirit of the original medieval church but not per se how the originals looked.
I loved how this particular Gargoyle from this angle appears to be watching over the city of Paris. Hence the guardian title. I feel as if he is an ever-vigilant protector of this old French city! That feeling also has some part in my choice to give this piece these great golden tones of color.
Whatever the Gargoyle's role in all this, he certainly has a great view doesn't he?
Note: Notre Dame de Paris is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site
