I couldn't imagine a more fitting closing to a short visit to Tybee Island and the Georgia coast. I had long had such a visit to check out the area on my list, but it ironically only came to pass because of a chance for cheaper tickets to fly out of Savannah's airport. And it was Savannah I came to see, but it was Tybee Island that I grew to love so quickly. My last evening was spent roaming the beaches you see, enjoying the sound of the ocean and the unforgettable sea air that is a hallmark of any good coastal destination.
I took this photo from the long pier on a Sunday evening in late summer. The island was remarkably free of many tourists because of the following day being a school day. That emptiness gives my photo of sun setting over the island such a feel of a lost paradise. And the colors and the clouds remind me for the world of cotton candy. Yes, my idea of paradise includes candy skies, how about you?
