Artist's Description

On my second trip to Merida, I had hit all the highlights. I had explored the city before. On my second trip, I had the opportunity to explore the details a bit more. The result was a series of windows and doors highlighting not just the architecture but in many instances the stunning colors that inhabit the daily lives of Mexicans.

This particular set of windows and doors remain one of my favorites. It has a distinctly Moorish feel to the architecture. In fact, I suspect I could pass it off as being taken elsewhere. But as I look at the weathered white door a bit more, I get a far more Spanish colonial feel. And one starts noticing that the blue trim-work is a bit more of a facade of Moorish design. And suddenly the beautiful architecture takes on a life of its own. It's clearly inspired by Moorish design (after all large parts of Spain were under control by the Moors for centuries), but it's a very Mexican take on it.
