Description
I've read that life on the water is a common pastime in Galway, between the beautiful River Corrib and, of course, Galway Bay. In the middle of winter when I visited, though, I only saw a few hearty souls paddling on those waters and none sailing. The story of winter on the Corrib was very much one of waiting, of being in stasis waiting for the seasons to turn once more.
This textured photo art is based off of one of my photos taken on that quiet river. I was standing at a set of docks above the salmon weir when I spied this boat waiting in the marshy river side. The reflecting sky was the next thing to catch my eye, and at first I thought to make use of that reflection, to create an image that emphasized the symmetry between sky and the reflection in the water, but as I tried various ways to frame this scene I quickly came to realize that my little boat would get lost in the middle of that photo. The reflection, no the boat would be the subject.
Thus I settled on this composition which I felt best made use of that beautiful blue sky reflecting in the Corrib. I love how those blue rippling waters leads one's eyes right to the boat and those golden marsh grasses.
Waiting for another season...
