Description
My last day in Scotland was marked by some of the best light of my trip, and it was a given that my last day would find me revisiting some of my favorite spots in the city. And of course, yes, the grand old castle atop Castle Rock was on that list. The light was so soft and golden, as if my memories of Edinburgh were meant to be tinged with a warm glow.
Although my first views over a decade ago of Edinburgh Castle were from Princes Street, the view from the Esplanade in front is really my most vivid memory of the castle, and one I've repeated many times over, both because of the view of the castle as well as the commanding view of Edinburgh from way up there next to the clouds!
And for those who have had the pleasure of attending the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, or simply watching it from afar as some of us do, this is probably a place of vivid memories for you as this is where that pageant unfolds each year with the beautiful facade of the old castle as a backdrop.
Note: Edinburgh's historic Old and New Towns, including the famous castle, are part of a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.
