My first time approaching the famous Spanish Steps in Rome in the rain was quite a wayward wander. It's not uncommon to be a little turned around when one travels, but the warren of barely marked streets in Italy seemed destined for confusion! Of course, sometimes confusion is the fun part!
I stumbled onto the Via dei Condotti at last and began my straight line to the Spanish Steps at last, and on one of Rome's more fashionable streets no less!
On a winter night in the rain, though, it was hard to see much more than colors and streaks and the whole scene took on the feeling of paint colors running in the rain! But it was beautiful as you can see!
I'm guessing the lights crisscrossing the streets was because it was still the holidays in Italy where Christmas ends on the Epiphany. Whatever the reason, it sure made walking along the Via dei Condotti in the rain a treasure!
Which was good because the top of the Spanish Steps were covered in scaffolding for my visit to Rome. So my pleasure was the journey that night in Rome, not the destination! Isn't it nice how that works out?
