The photo this was based on was taken during my first real visit to new York City. I had seen her out the plane windows once or twice before, but it's nothing like seeing that great statue standing before you from a boat!
One can almost feel how it felt to those long ago immigrants approaching Ellis Island for the first time. It's a pretty magical feeling if you haven't had the chance. If you have, then you understand what I'm saying, don't you?
I wanted this to feel vintage in both color and to have the feeling of an old postcard, hence the postmark in the corner.
If you look closely, that postmark is also an homage to Lady Liberty's origins - a gift from the French.
