I genuinely fell in love with walking on the beach at Tybee Island off the Georgia coast near Savannah. It's quite funny that my original destination was to spend a few days in Savannah before a flight out, but in the end, I spent the bulk of my time enjoying the seaside on Tybee.
I had heard so much about Tybee Island and the barrier islands in general over the years that I think I expected it to be incredibly touristy, and there's no doubt that it has all the trademarks of a seaside resort, but the natural beauty of the coast won me over. It may have helped that I was there in September when many had completed any summer break plans they might have had.
The beach was empty but not so completely as you might think on first looking at this picture. I took this photo near dusk as a long exposure. If you look closely along the pier, you'll catch a few 'ghosts' - people who paused just long enough to record themselves barely perceptibly in the exposure.
