Gazing up at the towering heights of Tybee Isalnd Light was a beautiful way to start the day. The historic lighthouse was first built during Georgia's colonial past. The buildings that stand today were extensively rebuilt in the late 19th century, and doesn't that adorable little lighthouse keeper's cottage look straight out of that era? So charming! In a way for me, touring that little cottage was more exciting that the lighthouse itself as it's a great peek into the way of life many of our grandparents and great-grandparents knew.
Tybee Island off the Georgia coast is hardly stuck in the past, but it's great that there are little corners like this where you can feel transported back in time to a day when lighthouses served as such important navigational beacons along our coastlines.
