Description
In the heart of Buckhead on Roswell Road was the Roxy - an old movie theater turned popular music venue. I somehow missed out on ever seeing a live show the the Roxy and much to my regret. The one show I intended to see there before it was closed was cancelled. But there seem to be a lot of people for whom the old Roxy is a great source of nostalgia.
The Roxy was originally opened as the Buckhead Theatre in 1931. It was built in the Spanish baroque style which its facade has retained. Unlike many old movie houses, it has survived the wrecking ball over the years by reinventing itself many times over the decades.
When I left Atlanta, the Roxy was closed, but I've since found out it re-opened and has re-branded back to the Buckhead Theatre, but the photos I've seen of it suggest that a lot of the vivid color you see in this photo-based artwork is gone, and I fear I miss the Roxy of old! I'm sure there are many Atlanta residents past and present who have that same feeling about the old landmark on Roswell Road.
