Description
On my last day in Rome, I decided I had spent plenty of time enjoying the antiquities. What I really wanted was just a quiet place to reflect, no pun intended!
Glancing at a map, I discovered I wasn't far from the Villa Borghese gardens. Sounded perfect and it was as lovely as you'd picture in an Italian park-setting.
This little "temple" reflecting in a lake, though, was my favorite part. Not just because it was beautiful but because of the irony. I've seen a lot of these little classical faux temples in gardens near and far. They are often 19th century, just like this one, but the difference here is that it feels much different to encounter one in Rome where there are actual classical temples! There's a bit of irony, but this little 'Temple of Aesculapius' was in an incredibly beautiful setting, so give the garden designers credit! A Roman temple surely belonged here to reflect in that still pond even if it had to be built in the 19th century.
