Description
I've always considered this photo of Holyrood to be a testament to deceptive beauty! When I took this picture of the beautiful baroque palace on the afternoon of New Year's Eve several years ago, I had no idea what the night would bring. I only knew that the skies over the palace were truly dramatic and dazzling! The skies had parted and the sun shone. It seemed a good portent for a beautiful evening for the annual street party.
As it turns out, it was but a lull in the storms. The night that followed in Edinburgh would feature gale force winds and the shuttering of the Hogmanay party.
There's something of a moral interwoven in there somewhere. It reminded me of my tour of the palace itself. Though there is much beauty in that old architecture, when you hear some of the dark tales of intrigue that took place inside, you realize that everything is a mixture of dark and light.
Ah, but the storms were worth it, for a few moments, the light and the skies were just right for a moment of unforgettable beauty on the grounds of Holyrood in Edinburgh.
