Description
When I lived in the Atlanta area, one of my favorite places to go in the spring and fall was the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. In those seaons, there always seemed to be something beautiful growing. The rugged rocks of Arabia Mountain, like its better known cousin, Stone Mountain, are host to some amazingly tenacious types of plant life, plants that are able to cling to life against the odds!
The yellow daisies that bloom there are well known to visitors on both Stone Mountain and Arabia Mountain. And apparently this particular variety of the flower i somewhat rare, mainly being found on rocky outcroppings of the southeastern US. From my reading they are known under a handful of names, Stone Mountain Yellow Daisies, Confederate daisies, and Porter's Sunflower (Helianthus porteri). Whatever title appeals to you, they are just so lively and cheerful don't you think?
This photo art piece is based on a photo from one of my fall visits to Arabia Mountain several years ago. Those happy little daisies have stayed with me every since!
