Description
This is a street scene taken from the Pont des Arts in Paris, overlooking the Institut de France. I had no clue what this building was when I stopped on the bridge on a winter night, but I loved the architecture of the dome , how the lines of the building converged and draw your eyes towards domed center with the entrance.
It turns out the Institut de France occupies the building and has since 1795, but the building is older still, originally being the Collge des Quatre-Nations, built in the 17th century. So, truly classic architecture and long a center of French learning.
The Palais de l'Institut de France is connected to the Louvre by the Pont des Arts, an historic bridge, the first metal bridge in Paris (although it was completely rebuilt in the 1980s).
It felt surreal how much history stood before me while I was editing photos, and I think that vast empty sky in this portrait view made me want to illustrate that surreal feeling in the final image. I filled the sky with stars and added a number of textural layers for this final vintage-feel result.
