Description
The Mayan ruins at Tulum while small compared to the larger ancient Maya sites are popular for a big reason. And it's the same reason that coastal real estate is so popular, the beach! It seems the classic Maya lived inland, often over large cenotes where they got their drinking water. After the large cities were on their way out, there was a small renaissance of the Maya civilization, an echo if you will, that built here on the coast. There temples are small by comparison - on the rocky outcrop to the right in this panorama, you can see one of those late Mayan temples.
But the beauty here is location, look at that gorgeous beach! Even on a moody overcast day, it was wonderful to stand on this tropical beach, to feel the sea breeze and smell the salt air. And that's where this panorama takes me back to, as much the beach as any ancient ruin. I still feel the echo of the Maya who called this home. Have you stood on this same postcard perfect beach at Tulum? If so, I bet you know what I mean!
