Artist's Description

There are personal memories attached to many of my photos, but I can't say how proud I am that one of my most popular images from Egypt also marks the first time I saw THE pyramids for the first time. In our ride over, I somehow ended up in the middle and didn't get a single peek at the pyramids. At the time, that was sort of irritating, but in truth, I was utterly happy I saw the first pyramid on the Giza plateau in all its glory rather than between modern buildings in the nearby neighborhoods. This was how the pyramid was meant to be experienced, rising proudly from the earth against the bright Egyptian sun.

In fact, normally one wouldn't photograph straight into the sun like this, but as we approached Pharaoh Khufu's pyramid, I had to preserve the memory for myself Then I saw the silhouettes of my fellow travelers and I loved the contrast between the modern day people and the looming pyramid ahead.
