Description
Leeds Castle is one of those places I dream of seeing again. There's just something about the serenity of the English Countryside that speaks to me and makes me understand why these were the types of locations that the great English landscape painters frequented.
Leeds Castle itself is quite historic, dating back to 1119 and coming into the hands of King Edward I in 1278. In the intervening years it passed out of the royal family, and the castle we see today is pretty much the product on a 19th century renovation to create a Tudor style castle. A 19th century re-imagining seems to be terribly common with many of these old palaces and it seems they always chose a sort of fantasy of the past when they did it, but the result is like something from a Fairy Tale isn't it?
Based on a photograph from a spring time visit to Leeds Castle some years ago. To learn more about me and my work be sure to search for MarkOnArt for my main site.
