Description
The photo this street scene was based on was taken on one of the side streets in Mexico City's historic city center. By and large, it was a nondescript enough spot, but I loved the building on the opposite corner. There was something about the colors, the light that was hitting it that spoke to me. Even the little details like the flower baskets on the windows.
Anyone who has been to Mexico City knows that the traffic is relentless. As one of the world's largest cities, this is to be expected, especially in the city's heart. But it meant learning not to fight the traffic. There would be cars in photos of the city as a simple fact of life. It was a matter of making them work in the composition, and I'm glad I went that way. If you've stood on those streets, you know this would look odd without cars and people and the hum of life for which Mexico City is well known. This truly Mexico City from the streets.
