On my only day wandering the seaside at North Berwick, I spent a good deal of time on the beach. The sun was strong enough to help combat the cool ocean breezes, and I guess the beautiful views also helped to warm my spirits somewhat.
One of the interesting things was that I got to watch the tide rise. By the time I took this picture of the beautiful old harbor, the beach was retreating. Later in the evening when I left North Berwick for Edinburgh, the beach was entirely submerged. As someone who doesn't live by the sea, watching the tide come and go is always kind of fascinating to see!
I've read that there are a fair number of people on these beaches in North Berwick in summer, but in winter, it was a story of beautiful solitude in a quaint Scottish village by the seaside. I'd love to see North Berwick in other seasons some day, but I fell in love with the beautiful seascape there on a cold winter day in January. First loves are hard to break.
