Description
Savannah's beautiful cathedral is officially Saint John The Baptist Cathedral. I call it a fairytale cathedral perhaps fancifully because it just reminds me of something pulled from the pages of a storybook.
Savannah's Cathedral was built in the 1870s, but it was mostly lost to fire in 1898. The current incarnation is supposed to be faithful to the first but was completed in the 1920's.
Throughout my tours of Savannah, I heard the church compared to the cathedrals of Europe, and it's beautiful no doubt, but I would put it on a separate card architecturally from those Gothic beauties. In other words, it's beautiful on its own right without the need to compare it to anything else.
So thoroughly did it remind me of a fairytale church that it influenced the direction I took when editing this photo. I wanted to give it an illustrative or painterly feeling hence the textured accents. So, this is my rendition of Savannah's Cathedral as if I had ripped it from a book of tales.
