Description
San Cristobal de Las Casas in Chiapas was an interesting stop on my whirlwind jaunt through Mexico. It seemed to be a haven for expatriates from across the world, particularly Europe, but at the same time, the plaza in front of the old baroque church was packed with villagers from the surrounding countryside. Camping out for a market or because it was the festive period between Christmas and the Epiphany? I'm not sure what the explanation was, but I never saw the plaza empty and at night it was practically packed.
On my last day in San Cristobal de Las Casas, I finally got the light I was hoping for before leaving, bright brilliant sunlight to really bring out the colors in the 18th century baroque cathedral on the main square. It was this light combined with the general crowd of people that made me want to attempt a panorama to really get the scale of things in the heart of the city while I was there.
But mostly it was a question of color, I loved the bright golden yellows against the beautiful blue skies. So happy that I had that good light before I left. It's not always a given when you travel and are in a given place a short period of time. It was just as possible my stop in San Cristobal de Las Casas would have been devoid of photos. Luckily I love travel for travel's sight, not just the photo ops. It's still pleasing when they coincide though, you know?
