Granada was filled with beautiful old architecture. A lot of its Spanish colonial history shown through, but this particular door that I passed each day while I was there called to me. I loved the great patina to those old red walls most of all.

In fact, I think it was the general stamp of the passage of time that spoke to me. It was a simple family home a little in need of some TLC. I even spotted a little old lady walking inside with her small pet dog in her arms. It was almost a peek into life in Granada beyond those formidable old doors.

One of my favorite elements is probably the partial checkerboard red and white tiles in front of the entrance. The remains of long ago grandeur or a half-finished decorating project? I wasn't quite sure myself!

Life is full of happy surprises. After just over a decade working in the 9 to 5 cube world, I threw caution to the wind to follow my dreams of being a full time visual artist. That was five years ago! Is it easy? No, but something truly worthwhile is rarely simple.
