Description
The moment I laid eyes on this scene in a little plaza in Puebla, Mexico, I was transfixed. I loved the colors of the buildings, the architecture, and the bare limbs of that tree reaching into the clear blue skies. I had seen so much greenery and tropical flora and fauna that the tree being bare of leaves seemed singularly odd even though it was winter.
For me, this image really captures the vibe of Puebla from my overnight stop there. Colorful buildings like one finds in much of Latin America were the rule, but in Puebla, there were so many that had been freshly fixed up. There seemed to be real civic pride alive and well in the city of Puebla.
When it came time to edit this image, I was inspired to concentrate on the lines, those beautiful adobe buildings. A painterly textured approach was in order. The result feels to me like a page from an old illustrated book. I think the title of that book would definitely have the words colorful in it, don't you?
